Columbus, Georgia. $5 1882 Date Back. Fr. 534. NB. Charter #2338. PCGS Banknote Choice Fine 15. A fairly "common" charter by virtue of the fact that this institution records a total of 79 notes in the National Bank Note Census. The National Bank of Columbus (Charter# 2338) is nonetheless a charter where state-specific demand stretches that seemingly ample supply thin based on available records. Combined with the fact that this piece represents a type and denomination issued under the Series of 1882 that records only five survivors and offers extant signatures attributable to Cashier James Douglas Neill and President John Rhodes Browne (Jr.) it takes little to reason that those who specialize in Georgia Nationals have much to consider when this deceptively rare note crosses the auction block. Estimate: $1,250 - $1,750. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
