Cook (Captain James, FRS) & King (Captain James, LLD, FRS), A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean. Undertaken, by the Command of His Majesty, for making Discoveries in the Northern Hemisphere. To determine the Position and Extent of the West Side of North America; its Distance from Asia; and the Practicality of a Northern Passage to Europe. Performed under the direction of Captains Cook [...], In the Years 1776, 1777, 1778, 1779, and 1780, three volume set, first edition, London: Printed by W. and A. Strahan; for G. Nicol and T. Cadell, 1784, collating: [viii], xcvi, 421; [xii], 549; [xii], 558, [1]pp, typically bound with, by and large, just the quarto folding 24 plates, charts and maps: volume I comprising plates II, III, V, IX, XII, XIX, and oddly LXXXII (* as a folio illustration); volume II with plates XXIV, XXX, XXXII, LXXXVI (bound in place of XXXVI), XXXVII, XLIV, LXXXVII, LV, LIII, LXXXIV, and LXXXIII; volume III with plates LIX, LXIX, LXXXV, LXXIX, LXX, and LXXXI, plus the engraved folding Appendix II, uniformly bound in contemporary speckled calf over boards, red and green morocco lettering pieces, some wear, but good, 4to, (3) Provenance: 1) Isaac B*** &c ; ffeps with contemporary ink MS ownership inscription. 2) William Bridger (1832-1870), of Guildford, Surrey, amateur natural historian and collector of Australian birds eggs; his crested bookplates to each pastedown. First edition of the official account of Cook's third and final voyage.
