All auctions / Arts & Graphics / copia da Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn ( 1606-1669)...

10.3 x 12.1 cm A high-quality engraving, trimmed inside the border but with the framing line visible, on laid paper, with ink stains on the back of the paper, see photo. Beautiful example/copy in the manner of Rembrandt by an author unknown to me, from the 18th century, with Christ and the Samaritan Woman among the ruins, beside a well. The scene depicts Jesus Christ seated beside the well of Jacob, making gestures with his hands in front of the Samaritan woman leaning against the stone wall of the well, holding a jar. This copy's characteristic feature of Rembrandt is the use of chiaroscuro with a strong contrast: the right side of the engraving represents the architectural frame of the scene in dark tones, and the left side, dominated by light tones, represents the ruins and the decadence of the ancient world, illuminated by Christ's new teachings.
