Coppertone Advertising figure - Enamel, Metal - 1980-1990

Vintage metal advertising plaque for Coppertone, an incredibly famous brand for its sun lotions. The unmistakable illustration depicts Little Miss Coppertone, the famous blonde girl with pigtails who is being pulled down by a black dog (a Cocker Spaniel), revealing the tan line on the shore. This iconic advertising campaign was originally created in the United States in 1959 by designer Joyce Ballantyne Brand and has become one of the most recognizable symbols of commercial pop art in the world. The text on the plaque is written in German: • "BRÄUNEN ohne Sonnenbrand" translates literally as "Tan without sunburn" (or "without sunburn").
