Corgi 1:43 - Model car - Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster 304S

Introduced in the early 1960s, the 304S model reproduces the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster equipped with its hardtop. The letter "S" in the designation indicates the presence of spring suspension, a technical feature introduced by Corgi Toys on its chassis to stand out from the competition. The initial mold (reference 304 without suspension) was first marketed in classic paint colors. This sporty variant 304S is distinguished by a very specific surface treatment: a fully chrome-plated finish obtained by vacuum metallization. The bodywork is contrasted by a red-painted roof. In factory, Corgi also added a wide red racing stripe on the front hood incorporating a racing number (the most common being 1, 3, 4 or 7). This particular example was assembled with the number 3 decoration. The running gear uses spun metal wheels (spun hubs) mounted with black rubber tires. The model showcases its original chrome finish, its red roof, and the hood stripe bearing the number 3. The metal wheels and black tires are securely in place on the axles. The car is accompanied by its vintage Corgi Toys cardboard box, illustrated in the brand’s classic blue and yellow colors. The lot also includes a paper accessory often lost over time: the original registration leaflet "JOIN THE CORGI MODEL CLUB" that was tucked into the box at factory release. Sold as seen.
