Corry Ammerlaan - Sculpture

Who are World Loved. Image - Patinated thinker on a stoneware globe • Corry Ammerlaan (attrib.) • late 20th–early 21st century - Ceramic A long, contemplative male figure in patinated bronze sits atop a stoneware globe with continents in relief. Untouched signature; attributed to Corry Ammerlaan on the basis of figure type and globe motif. (The plinth is for illustration and is not included with this lot). A thinker sits on the world. The elongated male figure in patinated bronze has his hand against his head and extends one leg over the pole. He rests on a globe of glazed stoneware, on which Africa, Europe and Asia lie in soft relief. Attributed to the Dutch artist Corry Ammerlaan, late 20th to early 21st century. For this object, a Buy Now price has also been set for those who want to acquire it immediately without waiting. At a glance: Material: figure of patinated bronze alloy (bronze-like alloy), globe of glazed stoneware Dimensions: h 20 x diameter 14 cm Weight: 695 grams Brand: no signature, mark or label found Dating: late 20th to early 21st century Provenance: from the collection of Decaders Gallery Description and context: The nude figure is highly stylized, with long limbs and a roughly modeled surface. The dark brown patina is worn on the head, knee and foot to a warm gold-colored metal, so that the light follows the form. The hollow globe carries a matte crème-seladon glaze with iron specks. At the bottom there is a small, unglazed stand ring around a round opening, with the light gray shard visible. The sculpture stands on its own, without a plinth. The pose nods to Rodin’s Thinker, but with the hand to the forehead: the person who contemplates the world while on top of the world. Condition: Good. Figure: no damage observed; the gold highlights are a worn finish and show no wear. Globe: no chips, hairline cracks or restorations observed. Iron specks, color halos and localized glaze buildup are production-related to stoneware and not damage. The stand ring is unglazed, as intended. See the images. In the interior: Fits on a bookshelf, desk or windowsill in a modern, Scandinavian or eclectic interior. In side light the relief continents and the gold-colored edges of the figure come forward. Shipping: Professionally packed in a sturdy box with cushioning material, for fragile objects a double box. Always insured with Track and Trace. See feedback from previous buyers. Attribution and sources: Attributed to Corry Ammerlaan (1947), who designed figures in bronze-colored alloy for the Dutch publisher ArtiHove. Figure type, contemplative posture and the theme of man on the globe recur in her work; no signature was found. Her model 'The World-Wide Thinker' is another design, in kunstharz on a marbled globe, and is not claimed here.
