Descriptio Wood and antelope hide. Dimensions: 24 × 12 × 14 cm. Double-faced ritual mask belonging to the sculptural tradition of the Ejagham people, characterized by its Janus iconography, with two opposing faces alluding to duality, vigilance, and the ability to see the past and future simultaneously. Made of carved wood and complemented with antelope hide, this type of mask was associated with ritual societies and community ceremonies, where it played a symbolic role linked to spiritual power, protection, and social order. The expressive power of the faces and the patina of use demonstrate its ceremonial nature and its deep roots in Ejagham ritual life. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed.
