Crinoid - Fossilised animal - Scyphocrinites elegans - 63.5 cm - 50 cm

Stunning and large Crinoid plate (Scyphocrinites elegans) - Upper Silurian Description: Magnificent natural fossil plate showing a spectacular accumulation of crinoids (echinoderms) of the species Scyphocrinites elegans. This specimen exhibits exceptional three-dimensional preservation, with remarkable structural details: globular calices, crowns with complex branched arms, and the long articulated segmented stalks typical of these primitive marine creatures. Having appeared in the Ordovician, crinoids attached themselves to the seabed of the prehistoric ocean and used their arms as filters to feed. This piece is a fascinating testament to ancient marine ecosystems and makes for a top-tier decorative or collectible item. • Species: Scyphocrinites elegans • Era / Period: Upper Silurian to Devonian (about 410 to 420 million years ago) • Origin: Erfoud region, Sahara Desert, Morocco • Condition: Excellent natural three-dimensional preservation, stabilization of the characteristic red rock matrix.
