CROATIA / SERBIA / SLOVENIA [MAGAZINE] TANK, Ljubljana, No. 1½, 1927. 25.7 x 18.3 cm, stapled, color cover illustration by August ČERNIGOJ. Five linocuts by Černigoj and one by E. Stepancic. Texts by Lioubomir Micić. Avgust Černigoj studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar in 1924 alongside Kandinsky and Moholy-Nagy. Only two issues of *Tank* were published between 1927 and 1928: No. 1½ and No. 1½-3. Ideologically, TANK can be considered the successor to Zenit (banned in 1926), celebrating the “barbaric genius of the Balkans.” It also features “New Typography”: the capital letter at the beginning of each sentence is omitted, and everything is printed in lowercase. Reproduced in: - GLOBAL AVANTGARDE TYPOGRAPHY 1915–1950, p. 86, CROATIA/SERBIA/SLOVENIA 23 - DOKUMENTATIONS-BIBLIOTHEK III, SAMMLUNG U.
