CROATIA / SERBIA / SLOVENIA [MAGAZINE] TANK, Ljubljana, No. - Lot 241

CROATIA / SERBIA / SLOVENIA [MAGAZINE] TANK, Ljubljana, No. 1½, 1927. 25.7 x 18.3 cm, stapled, color cover illustration by August ČERNIGOJ. Five linocuts by Černigoj and one by E. Stepancic. Texts by Lioubomir Micić. Avgust Černigoj studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar in 1924 alongside Kandinsky and Moholy-Nagy. Only two issues of *Tank* were published between 1927 and 1928: No. 1½ and No. 1½-3. Ideologically, TANK can be considered the successor to Zenit (banned in 1926), celebrating the “barbaric genius of the Balkans.” It also features “New Typography”: the capital letter at the beginning of each sentence is omitted, and everything is printed in lowercase. Reproduced in: - GLOBAL AVANTGARDE TYPOGRAPHY 1915–1950, p. 86, CROATIA/SERBIA/SLOVENIA 23 - DOKUMENTATIONS-BIBLIOTHEK III, SAMMLUNG U. BIBLIOTHEK TRISTAN TZARA, 163 - THE AVANT-GARDE OF CENTRAL EUROPE 1907–1927, p. 92 - CENTRAL EUROPEAN AVANT-GARDE 1910–1930, p. 287 - THE PAUL DESTRIBATS COLLECTION, p. 102 - AUGUSTO CERNIGOJ (1898–1985), p. 41 - THE AVANT-GARDE APPLIED, p. 288 - ZENIT 1921–1926, p. 240 [MAGAZINE] TANK, Ljubljana, No. 1½–3, 1928. 25.7 x 18.3 cm, color-illustrated cover (pages 85–94 in facsimile). Copy signed by the editor, Ferdo Delak, who also authored an article. Linoleum prints by August Černigoj, Miha Males, Edvard Stepancic, and Carmelich. Poem and texts by Kurt Schwitters. Pages 85–94 are facsimiles, but the pages with the original engravings are present. An extremely rare complete collection in two issues. Of the utmost rarity.
