A fascinating and lightweight fragment of devotional sculpture depicting the Crucified Christ, dating from the 18th–19th century of Italian school. The piece stands out for its refined construction technique: entirely made of hand-modeled papier-mâché with a stucco finish and polychrome painting, without the aid of an internal core in wood or metal. This process gives the sculpture extraordinary lightness, weighing only 300 grams for a height of 40 cm from head to toe. Crucified Christ (fragment) Period: 18th–19th Century Technique: hand-modeled papier-mâché and polychrome stucco The object is presented in a state requiring restoration. As visible in the detailed photographs, the original crucifix’s hands are missing, along with widespread fissures, cracks, and detachment of the stucco and plaster preparatory layers. A piece of great historical and technical interest for collectors of devotional sacred art, lovers of ancient elements, and restorers.
