CUIRASSIER CERTIFICATE Cuirassier Certificate. Satirical diploma. [France, 19th century]. A curious satirical printed sheet, adorned with a vignette depicting a man working with leather, with the caption: “A gentleman cutting his leather.” The text, built entirely on puns involving leather, grants the fictional recipient the right to “turn everything that comes out of his mouth into leather,” under the burlesque authority of “Emperor Pataqu’est-ce,” Grand Master of the Order of the Cuirassiers. Fake signature “De Cuir-Fort, Grand Master” and humorous printed seal. A very amusing piece of popular literature and linguistic satire. A few foxing spots and small creases; old price notation in pencil.
