Cupboard - Keeftkast - Oak

Impressive traditional Frisian Keeftkast. These cabinets were made as showpieces to display social status. Very richly executed. And typical of Friesland. These cabinets were a statement. This is a fixed and iconic furniture type for this region. From the cap—with that distinctive profiling—it is called a "kwispeldoor cap" because if you mirror this profile, the shape of a kwispeldoor appears. The heavy half-columns also belong to this style with their deep fluting. See close-up photos. Heavy and articulated base above the ball feet. Very architectural, like a classically designed building. Completely with Greek columns and (always) Corinthian capitals. Original lock with a working key. What is surprising is the interior, also this we always see with this type of cabinet, the two ajour-cut doors. Beautiful panels on the sides. The back has oak panels that are of a later date.
