Brooches shaped like elegant bows can be found throughout the history of jewellery. They bridge the worlds of jewellery, clothing, and fashion, inviting you to incorporate them into your wardrobe in a unique way—for example, by wearing them in a spot where you might also expect to see a fabric bow as an ornament, or by creating harmonious color combinations. This 1950s bow features a warm, summery colour palette of yellow gold and bottle-green tourmalines from South America. Its design is compact and substantial; the three bow loops on each side are polished, wide, and appear very three-dimensional. The three tourmalines in the center are invisibly set and form a continuous green band. This bold design is typical of the so-called retro style, which continued to dominate fashion in Germany even in the 1950s. Following the cool, crystalline look of Art Deco, pieces of jewellery were now being created with a focus on reflective, unadorned, and shiny metal surfaces. As seen here, an intense gemstone is often combined with yellow gold; green tourmalines, as seen here, as well as smoky quartz or citrine, are very common. We discovered this brooch here in Berlin; it was most likely made in Germany.
