D'Albertis - Alla Nuova Guinea: ciò che ho veduto e ciò che ho fatto - 1880

Very rare first Italian edition (released in the same year as the original, in English) of the travel diaries of Luigi Maria D'Albertis (1841-1901). The author is remembered for being the first to navigate (in 1876) the Fly River, and for the fundamental contribution made to the Old Continent in knowledge of the animal and plant species of New Guinea. Luigi Maria D'Albertis, Alla Nuova Guinea: ciò che ho veduto e ciò che ho fatto, Torino, Fratelli Bocca e Cia., 1880. PP.: XVI, 588. COMPLETE, with 32 black-and-white illustrations in the text and 38 plates outside the text, including a portrait of the author on the half-title, a colored geographic map folded multiple times, and 4 ornithological chromolithographs (without the protective tissue guards). A specimen with maps in overall very good condition. Ex-libris stamp of the private library, now extinct, of Dr. Franco Santero on the rear white flyleaf. Twenty-century binding in green cloth with gilt title to the spine, very well preserved. White endpapers.
