Daniel Mühlhaus, also known as Daan Müehlhaus, was a Dutch painter who left his mark on the art world. Born on February 21, 1907 in Dordrecht, he lived and worked mainly in his hometown and later also in Paris. His artistic legacy includes paintings, watercolors, and drawings, inspired by cityscapes, landscapes, flowers, and portraits. Mühlhaus painted in the impressionist style. He used vibrant, lighter colors than many of the other Dordrecht artists of his time who often worked in somewhat gloomier tones. His work thus radiates a sense of light, movement, and emotion. The period between 1940 and 1960 is considered Muehlhaus’ most fruitful artistic period. In this period he created magnificent works that captured the soul of the countryside and the urban environment. His paintings of Dordrecht streets, flower fields, and harbor scenes are particularly beloved.
