All auctions / Lighting / Danese Milano - - Bruno Munari - Floor lamp - Falkland - Aluminium

Bruno Munari, 1964. Floor lamp. Diffuser in elastic tubular white mesh, frame in painted steel. The shape of the lamp ‘Falkland’ arises from the tension of a filanca tube and the weight of several metal rings: it is a spontaneous form, generated solely by the tension of the internal forces that make it up. Seven metal rings of different diameters, a white filanca tube, a single lamp and an aluminum reflector that repeats the curves of the fabric. This lamp corresponds more than others to the requirements Munari marks as indispensable for proper design: simplicity, efficiency, minimal storage footprint and maximum formal yield. It arises from the mixture of objects very distant from each other, such as fishing nets, women’s stockings and Oriental paper lamps. Over a meter and sixty tall, it compacts in the packaging to just a few centimeters of space, the light filters through the tube, using the fabric’s texture to create a distinctive effect of soft and diffused luminosity.
