Daniel Jerzy (1950-2015) - Untitled (“The Decorated Man”)

This expressive oil painting by Daniel Jerzy, created in Kraków in 1988, presents a striking and emotionally charged composition that immediately captures attention. The work depicts a central figure adorned with medals, confronted by distorted, almost theatrical characters and an enigmatic floating female figure above. The scene balances between satire and introspection, evoking themes of identity, authority, and the weight of recognition. Executed in oil on canvas, the painting shows confident, visible brushwork and a raw, unpolished aesthetic typical of Eastern European art from the late 20th century. The stylized figures, exaggerated facial expressions, and symbolic elements suggest influences from expressionism and social commentary, giving the work both narrative depth and visual tension. The artwork is hand-signed “D. Jerzy” on the front and further identified on the reverse as Daniel Jerzy, Kraków, dated 1988. An original period label from a Kraków workshop remains attached to the back, reinforcing its authenticity and origin. Measuring approximately 70 x 50 cm, the painting is presented unframed, allowing the buyer the freedom to choose a frame that complements their interior or collection. The canvas is in good overall condition, with minor wear along the edges consistent with age and handling. There are no major damages or structural issues. This is a distinctive and characterful piece, likely produced during the late communist-era art scene in Poland, where artists often embedded subtle critique and layered meaning into their work. Its bold composition and unconventional subject matter make it a compelling addition to any modern, eclectic, or collector-focused interior. A rare opportunity to acquire an original signed painting with clear provenance from Kraków, dating to 1988. #HalloweenArtNov
