The Divine Comedy of Federico da Montefeltro (Urb. Lat. 365 - Vatican Apostolic Library) DESCRIPTION: On auction, an extraordinary and exclusive high-quality facsimile volume, co-published by Treccani (Institute of the Italian Encyclopedia) and Franco Cosimo Panini Editore in collaboration with the Vatican Apostolic Library. The work is the faithful and complete reproduction of the famous illuminated manuscript Urb. Lat. 365, commissioned in the fifteenth century by Federico da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino, and is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Italian Renaissance miniature art. Characteristics of the Binding and the Case: Art Binding: Hardcover covered in precious crimson red velvet, richly decorated on the front board with plaques, studs and an imposing central emblem in gilded bronze depicting the crossed keys and the papal tiara, surrounded by Renaissance ornamental elements. Casing / Case: Coordinated rigid editorial case, covered in blue cloth with titles and gold tooling on the spine. Pages and Decorative Apparatus: Inside printed on high-grammage special paper that faithfully reproduces the texture and shades of the original parchment, with meticulous color reproduction and gold leaf of the miniatures signed by the great Renaissance masters (Guglielmo Giraldi, Franco dei Russi and Bartolomeo della Gatta).
