Dark Tiger Cowrie: Cypraea tigris f

A fascinating and highly aesthetic feature for every discerning tiger cowrie collection. This Cypraea tigris captivates with its rare, intensely dark color form. The distinctive spots are so densely and broadly expressed on this specimen that they merge into a deep, almost mystical overall image. With an excellent collector size of 95 mm, the shell is notably heavy and solidly built. The porcelain-like glaze is completely undamaged and gives the snail a mirror-smooth, deep natural sheen that brilliantly showcases the dark tones. Origin This authentic collectible piece comes from protected marine ecosystems around Mafia Island (Tanzania, East Africa). The reefs off Mafia Island in the Indian Ocean are famous in ConchyloLogy for producing cowries with exceptionally thick shells and extremely contrasting, dark pigmentation due to the local water temperatures and nutrients.
