DAUCOURT (Claude Godard d'Aucourt, known as). *Le Berceau de la France*. Paris: Printed by Didot the Elder, 1780. 2 volumes in-18, green morocco, triple gilt fillet, small floral motifs at the corners, plain decorated spine, red title and volume number labels, interior roulette, pink moiré lining and endpapers, gilt edges (contemporary binding). An edition published by François Ambroise Didot, part of a collection of French works printed by order of the Count of Artois and produced in limited numbers. The author, to whom we owe the famous licentious novel *Thémidore* (1745), presents here a very unique history of France, as he maintains that French civilization traces its origins to Egypt. A lovely copy in green morocco leather from the period. Foliolation spots on the endpapers.
