Daum - Ashtray - Glass

An Exceptional Mid-Century Modern Signed Heavy Lead Crystal Cigar Ashtray by Daum France (c. 1960s-1970s) This magnificent, heavy clear lead crystal object is a premier example of mid-20th-century luxury French art glass production. Crafted by the prestigious historic crystalworks Daum in Nancy, France, this piece perfectly encapsulates the era's transition toward organic, bold, and sculptural aesthetics. Design & Purpose: Specifically designed as an upscale cigar ashtray (cendrier), the piece features an asymmetric "freeform" silhouette that mimics fluid, organic shapes like melting ice. The smooth, sweeping folds at the corners serve as elegant, wide rests perfectly tailored to accommodate premium cigars. Crafted from thick-walled full-lead crystal, it boasts incredible optical transparency, immense weight, and a deep luster that brilliantly refracts natural light. The maximum diameter across the diagonal measures exactly 14.5 cm. Authenticity & Markings: The ashtray features impeccable provenance, bearing the authentic diamond-point engraved signature "Daum ‡ France" (including the official Cross of Lorraine symbol) neatly inscribed on the lower side edge [Proantic]. This signature certifies the highest manufacturing standards and guarantees its status as a highly sought-after collector's item. Condition Report: In excellent vintage condition with outstanding clarity and brilliance. No chips, flea bites, cracks, or restorations. The flat polished underside shows only very light, minor shelf-wear scratches consistent with age and gentle historical display. The object will be packaged with professional care and shipped with track & trace and full insurance coverage.
