Daum Frères - Vase - Glass - France 1920/1930

This vase signed Daum Nancy France presents a particularly elegant shape and a very interesting polychrome decoration. It is distinguished by its long delicate pink neck, contrasting with a globular body in cobalt blue and emerald green. - Height: 29 cm - Width (at its widest): 10.5 cm - Weight: 637 g - Circa 1920/1935 This contrast between a voluminous body and a very slender neck gives the piece an elongated silhouette, typical of the formal explorations of decorative glassmaking at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The body features three distinct color zones (blue, green and pink). The decoration is essentially based on texture and color effects rather than on figurative representation. Hand-blown glass with a jasper decoration of colored powders, possibly with overlapping layers of glass. The vase is signed "Daum Nancy France" with the Lorraine cross between "Daum" and "Nancy," which allows dating this vase quite precisely to the 1920s/1930s. Thus the object sits at the transition between the glassmaking traditions of Art Nouveau and the aesthetic explorations of Art Deco. Indeed, it is interesting to note that Daum, during the interwar period, kept certain decorative techniques developed during the Nancy School, while progressively simplifying the forms (as with this vase, a true witness of this transitional period). The vase is in very good overall condition (some signs of normal wear due to its century of existence; also note a few micro chips at the rim visible in the photo). In short, a charming vase with a century of existence, with original shape and colors, signed by one of the world's most prestigious glassworks/crystallers, and which moreover testifies to the passage from Art Nouveau to Art Deco.
