Antique Asian bamboo travel trunk - handwoven, with a brass clasp lock Japan (likely), ca. 1900-1930 Decorative antique travel trunk made of handwoven bamboo and rattan, with a fine herringbone- and diamond-pattern that runs across the entire lid and the back. The edge consists of half bamboo stalks bound with rattan bands. The case has two braided handles of wrapped rattan, attached with iron ring eyes. It closes with a brass swing clasp with a hinged cover plate. This construction (light, airy, and tightly woven) was typical for travel trunks from Japan and China, which around 1900-1930 were also sold in Europe. A beautiful decorative object for the hall or living room, as a storage chest, or as styling for a shop or display window. good, original antique condition with clear signs of use and a warm patina.
