Delicate Looped Necklace in Gold & Platinum, with Diamonds and a Natural

The years between 1890 and 1914 are referred to as the “Fin de Siècle” (French for “end of the century”). Jewellery from this period displays a wide range of styles. In addition to Art Nouveau, the so-called garland style—which drew inspiration from 18th-century forms—was particularly popular. Among its favored motifs were elegant bow shapes, crafted in a wide variety of designs using luxurious materials. The bow, as a literal “symbol of connection,” was particularly good as a gift of love or friendship. Queen Elizabeth II always wore her large bow brooches on occasions when she wanted to express this sense of connection. The Queen’s largest and most beautiful bow brooch, the so-called “true lover’s knot brooch,” was last seen at the wedding of William and Kate, where it was used in its literal sense: The “true lovers’ knot,” tied in an unbreakable knot, signified the Queen’s approval of her grandson’s commoner wedding. This necklace, too, is a variation on this ancient motif: A delicately crafted pendant in the shape of a small bow hangs from a delicate anchor chain. Its surface is entirely set with sparkling diamond roses. A beautiful natural pearl with a lustrous sheen is suspended from a movable ribbon set with additional diamonds. Crafted c. 1910, the necklace is in excellent condition and captivates with its elegant design, magnificent detailing, and high-quality craftsmanship. Thanks to its clever combination of diamonds and platinum, it also pairs particularly well with many other pieces of jewellery.
