Pieces of jewellery with sentimental significance were popular gifts of love as early as the 19th century and well into the 20th century. After all, what better way is there to express a promise than through precious jewellery that the recipient can always carry with them? This ring is a trilogy ring that derives its romantic significance from the three central gemstones: they represent the past, present, and future. These dimensions of time are expressed here by two old-cut diamonds and a large natural pearl that shimmers in various hues. Because of this symbolism—which refers not only to shared memories but also to the couple’s future together—rings like this were often given as engagement rings at the turn of the century. The choice of materials adds yet another nuance to this message, as diamonds symbolize eternity and the pearl symbolizes purity. In keeping with the style of the era, the ring is crafted from slightly reddish, high-karat gold. The settings for the diamonds and the pearl are additionally plated with platinum, whose light colour showcases the gemstones particularly well. A dynamically curved band, set with small diamond roses, connects the three stones and lends the ring that flowing movement that already reveals the influence of Art Nouveau.
