All auctions / Jewellery & Gems / Delicate Ring with a Pink-Orange Sapphire and Diamonds in Gold, from

Some time ago, we were fortunate enough to acquire a large collection of tourmalines and beryls that had been lying dormant in a Stockholm gem dealer’s warehouse since the 1950s. Our goldsmiths designed a gold ring to showcase one of these gemstones, each accompanied by six diamonds. Crafted from sustainable materials and featuring diamonds that also carry their own history, this ring design breathes new life into these historic gemstones. Here, a sapphire is presented in a simple yet classic setting. It is a stone with a few delicate inclusions in an unusual colour that lies between pink and orange and is reminiscent of the colour of a lotus blossom. It is accompanied by six brilliant-cut diamonds—three on the right and three on the left—which add bright highlights to the sapphire’s warm glow. Depending on the angle of the light, the stone appears slightly more orange-red or more pink and is known in the gemstone trade as a padparadscha due to its characteristic coloration. The sapphire acquired its extraordinary colour through a beryllium treatment—a now-established gemstone enhancement process in which the stone’s natural hues are permanently transformed, through controlled heating, into the coveted play of colours between pink and orange. The Padparadscha sapphire originates from Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, whose deposits were long considered the classic source region for this extraordinary gemstone. Today, however, sapphires in this coveted colour variety also come from Vietnam, Tanzania, and Madagascar. The stone featured here was found in Madagascar and captivates with its striking Padparadscha colour. As with all rings in this series, the gold and diamonds were sustainably sourced. They come from pieces of jewellery that, unfortunately, were in such poor condition that they could no longer be restored. Here, however, in a new form, they too can begin a new life. This is the first time this sapphire has been incorporated into a piece of jewellery. We love this ring because it’s simple and lets the extraordinary gemstone take center stage. Its clean design draws the eye entirely to the sapphire’s fascinating play of colours, making it a piece of jewellery that can be worn just as effortlessly in everyday life as on special occasions—and easily paired with other rings.
