DELMAS (Francisque) (1861–1933). French opera singer, bass-b - Lot 101

DELMAS (Francisque) (1861–1933). French opera singer, bass-baritone at the Paris Opera. Visiting card with a few handwritten words. Visiting card printed with the name “Francisque Delmas, of the Opera,” bearing his Paris address: “4, Square La Bruyère.” Below his name, the singer added a few handwritten words in purple ink: “my best wishes.” Francisque Delmas (Lyon, 1861–1933) was one of the great bass voices of the Paris Opera in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Endowed with a powerful voice and remarkable stage presence, he distinguished himself in the major works of the French and Wagnerian repertoires, notably in the operas of Massenet, Gounod, and Wagner. This business card reflects the social correspondence practices of opera singers during the Belle Époque. It is notable for bearing the singer’s printed name, his status as a member of the Opera, and his personal address, accompanied by a handwritten greeting in his own hand. Autographed calling card of a renowned singer from the Paris Opera. Good overall condition. Slight signs of handling and minor age-related marks. The autograph text is clearly legible.
