Heligoland, Nordstrand, Eiderstedt, Fehmarn and Als are depicted. The title is in a cartouche at the top, and the scales in German and French miles are in a cartouche at the bottom left. - Dimensions: sheet: 56 x 47.5 cm; plate (map): 46.9 x 35.3 cm - Condition: Generally good for a map of this period. Atlas Mercator-Hondius - The atlas called “Mercator-Hondius” continues the work of Gerard Mercator, whose copperplates were bought back by Jodocus Hondius in 1604. This French edition of 1633 is signed by his son Henricus Hondius and his son-in-law Joannes Janssonius, who added new maps. Henricus Hondius – Henricus Hondius (1597-1651) was a cartographer, engraver and publisher active in Amsterdam. Son of Jodocus Hondius, who had in 1604 repurchased Gerard Mercator’s copperplates, he continued the publication of the Mercator-Hondius atlas. His brother-in-law Johannes Janssonius partnered with him for editions published in the 1630s.
