DENMARK. Penny, ND (1016-35). Slagelse Mint. Cnut (Knud den Store). NGC AU Details--Bent. Hauberg-42; Hauberg Collection-63; Bruun-1330 (illustrated plate 3). Weight: 1.07 gms. Flan slightly crimped, but a well-struck and handsomely toned piece of this extremely rare type. Although this interesting and unusual type with five cross-arranged crosses features blundered legends on both sides, its attribution to the Slagelse mint is beyond doubt, as it shares a die link with another type (Hauberg-41) bearing one of the religious Latin legends highly characteristic of this specific mint. Estimate: €1,200 - €1,800. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922). To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E.
