DENMARK. Penny, ND (1035-42). Viborg Mint. Harthacnut (Hardeknud). NGC AU Details--Peck Marked. Hauberg-40; not in Hauberg Collection; Bruun-1485 (illustrated plate 5); Weight: 0.86 gms. Moneyer: Braem. Excessively rare in private ownership with only one example recorded in public collections, which according to Professor C. J. Becker's studies is kept at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. The obverse die was also used in a combination with another Jewel Cross reverse bearing the name of the moneyer Oththencar and the name of the Mint of Lund (C.J. Becker-H 27). A highly enigmatic type of immense numismatic importance as it illustrates that especially obverse dies sometimes travelled to another Mint to be used there. Estimate: €2,000 - €3,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here. Please note: Bid amounts do not include VAT. Buyers which are non-VAT registered entities or individuals who take delivery of lots within EU countries subject to margin scheme taxation will be invoiced a VAT charge and a Buyer’s Premium for a total of 27.5% based upon the total amount of the hammer.
