DENMARK. Penny, ND (1047-75). Lund Mint. Svend II Estridsen. NGC Unc Details--Peck Marked, Holed. Hauberg-14; not in Hauberg Collection; Bruun-1711 (illustrated plate 7); Weight: 1.04 gms. Moneyer: Wulfet. Nicely toned, lustrous and well-struck. Extremely rare type which, quite unusually for coins of the period, leaves the obverse to an inscription and not a figurative motif. Although the inscription is illegible, it is clearly derived from the Byzantine Miliaresia. The contemporaneous and precisely positioned perforation indicates that the specimen was attributed a special, non-monetary value. Estimate: €2,000 - €3,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Alfred Benzon Collection (Copenhagen - 1887) Lot # 370. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here.
