DENMARK. Penny, ND (1202-41). Lund Mint. Valdemar II (the Victorious). NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Hauberg-1; Hauberg Collection-1526; Poulsen-SK29; Bruun-2359 (illustrated plate 11); Weight: 0.80 gms. Perfectly centered, wonderfully toned and with razor sharp details, this is truly a magnificent survivor of this typical Valdemarian issue. The reverse legend: ANDREA demonstrates unambiguously that the coin was minted in Lund for Andreas Suneson; it is highly plausible that the type was struck to coincide with his formal investiture as archbishop in 1202. Estimate: €1,000 - €1,200. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here.
