DENMARK. Piedfort Skilling, 1763. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik V. NGC AU-55. KM-cf. 578; Hede-cf. 37B; Sieg-cf. 2.2; Schou-Unlisted (cf. 18); Bruun-7706. Weight: 2.44 gms. Mintmaster: Georg Wilhelm Wahl (W). Engraver: Johan Ephraim Bauert. A charming piece of the utmost rarity. This is one of the very few instances where H. H. Schou, during his review of the L. E. Bruun collection prior to his groundbreaking reference work, overlooked a major rarity. Weighing more than three times the mandated weight and featuring a reeded edge, this is by no means an accidental striking. As Bauert took up his position in 1763, there is little doubt that this is a presentation piece, intended to showcase his skills in the art of engraving. Estimate: €1,000 - €1,500. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here. Please note: Bid amounts do not include VAT. Buyers which are non-VAT registered entities or individuals who take delivery of lots within EU countries subject to margin scheme taxation will be invoiced a VAT charge and a Buyer’s Premium for a total of 27.5% based upon the total amount of the hammer.
