Exceedingly Rare Proof Pattern (◊) DENMARK. Silver 1/4 Speciedaler Pattern, 1833. Altona Mint. Frederik VI. NGC PROOF-64. KM-Pn53; Hede-28; Sieg-42; Schou-8. Mintmaster: Johan Friedrich Freund. Engraver: Hans Frederik Alsing (FA). A deeply toned and attractive example with crisp and razor-sharp details on top of the mirrored fields. An excessively rare coin with only a handful known. This one-year type was struck as a pattern for a never realized denomination, a 1/4 Speciedaler or "En halv Rigsbankdaler". In 1854 and 1855, during the reign of Frederik VII, a coin of the exact same weight and silver content was issued, now bearing the denomination "1/2 Rigsdaler". Estimate: €8,000 - €12,000.
