DENMARK. Thirty Years' War Silver Medal, ND (ca. 1625). Copenhagen.

DENMARK. Thirty Years' War Silver Medal, ND (ca. 1625). Copenhagen. Christian IV. NGC AU-58. Galster-73; JS-239; Bruun-15269. Weight: 29 gms. Diameter: 42 mm. Engraver: Thomas Borstorff (?). A small contemporary graffito (owner's mark) is noted underneath the front hoofs of the horse. A most appealing, original condition. Rare. The obverse depicts the king as commander-in-chief holding a marshal's baton, while the beautiful reverse features a tetragrammaton guiding the king's heart, with a legend from the Lord's Prayer: "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven". Although the medal has previously been associated with the anatomical observatory, the Round Tower in Copenhagen, it should presumably be considered struck in connection with the king's participation in the Thirty Years' War. Estimate: €2,000 - €3,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here. Please note: Bid amounts do not include VAT. Buyers which are non-VAT registered entities or individuals who take delivery of lots within EU countries subject to margin scheme taxation will be invoiced a VAT charge and a Buyer’s Premium for a total of 27.5% based upon the total amount of the hammer.
