Désiré NISARD, Professor at the Collège de France, essayist, Member of the National Assembly for the Côte d’Or, Senator, member of the Académie Française (Châtillon-sur-Seine, Côte d’Or, 1806–1888) - 8 signed autograph letters. (1839–1864): “Paris, 1841. Sir, If your manuscript is ready, please send it to me. We have now reached the point where it is ready for printing. I need to have it a few days in advance to review it and, if necessary—and since you are kind enough to approve of it—make a few changes. I am sure these will be quite minor. The work has been done with care and diligence, and I will have little choice but to respect it as it is. I await the precious manuscript and thank you in advance…» + Paris 1841. «Sir; to my great regret, I was away when your letter arrived at my home. I only learned of it this morning, and I am writing the most urgent letter to Mr. de JUSSIEU at this very moment. I hope it will bear some fruit, unless, of course, Mr. de JUSSIEU has already had the good sense to improve your situation without waiting for the recommendations. ” “Paris, October 20, 1864. “…All of this would be too little if I were to claim the office of Senator as a reward; but perhaps the Emperor’s kindness will deem it sufficient if I ask only for one final post from which I may serve the Empire and the Emperor until the end of my life.” (Excerpts)
