Diogène Laërce - Diogenis Laertii

Rare scholarly edition of one of the most important testimonies on the life and thought of the philosophers of ancient Greek philosophy. Its title, which can be translated as Lives, Doctrines, and Sayings of Illustrious Philosophers in Ten Books, clearly announces the ambition of this work: to gather biographical information, doctrinal expositions, anecdotes, and memorable sayings that illuminate the great figures of ancient philosophy. Diogenes Laërtius, a Greek author whose exact period of activity remains uncertain, probably situated between the 2nd and 3rd centuries CE, compiled a vast amount of traditions relating to the thinkers who shaped the intellectual history of Greece.
