Dish - Porcelain - China Canton Family Rose

This sublime porcelain dish from China, Qianlong period (1736-1795), decorated in the refined Cantonese famille rose enamels, is a superb example. With an ideal diameter of 23 cm, this Asian art piece delicately illustrates a court scene. At the center of the medallion, an elegant courtesan seated on a paved terrace interacts with her attendants in a garden of a noble palace, opening onto a tranquil lakeside landscape. The rim is richly ornamented with a purple openwork lattice punctuated by clouded cartouches painted with flowers and miniature landscapes in a pink and ochre monochrome, framed by contours heightened with gold. The finesse of the drawing, the relief of the enamels, and the richness of the color palette testify to the exceptional craftsmanship of Chinese porcelain makers destined for the East India Company. Infimé nicks. For comparison: Qianlong-era Chinese porcelain plates in the Famille Rose with this type of aristocratic Mandarin decoration are in high demand among Asian art collectors. A pair of high-quality plates with comparable decoration (A pair of Chinese famille rose 'Mandarin' plates, Qianlong) was auctioned at Coronari Auctions - Asian, European & Islamic Arts (Lot 6556). https://www.coronariauctions.com/en/auction-september-2021-asian-european--islamic-arts/6556-a-pair-of-chinese-famille-rose-mandarin-plates-qianlong This type of piece attests to the patrimonial value and the sustained demand for eighteenth-century Chinese export porcelain on the international art market.
