All auctions / Asian Art / Dish - Porcelain - Qing "Longevity" 28 cm
Large plate “Longevity” in white and blue porcelain (diameter 28 cm), China, Qing Dynasty (19th Century). Fascinating and typical Chinese export plate in white and blue porcelain. This type of manufacture, historically produced in the renowned Jingdezhen kilns or in the Fujian area, is well known among collectors. At the center of the cavetto, the plate features a refined lobed medallion in the shape of lotus petals that encloses the stylized Shou symbol, the traditional and powerful Chinese auspicious emblem for long life, health, and longevity. The medallion is surrounded by a frame recalling the sacred longevity mushroom or stylized clouds; the rim and cavetto are finely decorated with cobalt blue underglaze, featuring a dense and evocative radiating pattern of vertical geometric lines. The back presents a non-glazed foot ring with a high-fired clay body consistent with the period, stylized decorations on the outer edge, and an old label with handwritten numbers. The object is currently mounted on a spring metal display stand for wall display. A classic and substantial example of nineteenth-century Chinese ceramic culture, entirely akin to those found in the era’s famous marine trade shipwrecks (such as the cargo of the Diana Cargo ship, sunk in 1816). Perfect for collectors of Oriental art and enthusiasts of the genre. In good condition with evident signs of aging consistent with the piece’s age and small chips, scratches, and firing imperfections original to the period kilns. Weight 1.200 kg. For all details please refer to the photos. The plate will be professionally packed and shipped with tracking code.
