DJANGHARA WAIGAN AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL PAINTING ON BARK

Ca. 20th century AD. > A eucalyptus bark painting with natural earth pigments, secured with wooden battens at each end. The composition depicts a dynamic ancestral narrative scene, centred on a sea creature. Surrounding figureslikely associated fauna and spirit beingsare arranged in a flowing, horizontal composition, accompanied by linear motifs suggestive of water currents and movement. The work is attributed to Djanghara (Waigan), an artist associated with the Arnhem Land tradition, where bark painting serves both as artistic expression and as a vehicle for the transmission of cultural knowledge, ancestral stories, and connections to land and sea. > > Size: 620mm x 255mm; Weight: 645g > Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014. > >
