Description Ottoman Imperial Order of Sultan Mahmud II Concerning Ceremonial Curtains for Medina and the Prophet’s Chamber — 1246 AH (1830–1831 AD) A remarkable Ottoman imperial historical document issued by order of Sultan Mahmud II (Mahmud Khan, son of Abdulhamid), dated 1246 AH (1830–1831 AD) and bearing his prominent imperial tughra. The document records, by order of the Ottoman Sultan, the making of a blessed ceremonial curtain intended to be placed at one of the gates of Medina. The text then records the making of another noble ceremonial curtain intended for the Noble Chamber (al-Hujra al-Sharifa / al-Hujra al-Nabawiyya) in Medina. The document specifically describes this noble curtain as being made of coloured silk fabric, and states that its Qur’anic verses were embroidered and decorated with gold and silver.
