Altarpiece – "Domingos da Silva Lessa," 19th century, Portugal. 230 x 65 cm. Antique mid-19th-century altar cloth featuring a red, purple, and crimson ornamental weave with floral motifs and gold metallic thread braid. Stamped on the back: "Domingos da Silva Lessa". It displays an elaborate symmetrical design of floral and vegetal motifs. The pattern appears to be integrated into the fabric structure. Pomegranates are surrounded by scrolls, stylized acanthus leaves, and large, feathery fronds that repeat vertically. This type of vegetal design is characteristic of Hispano-Italian and French influenced sacred textiles produced in liturgical passementerie workshops during the 18th and 19th centuries. It is finished on all four edges with gold metallic thread braid and features a hand-sewn, coarse fabric backing. The reverse side retains traces of a partially worn blue ink stamp indicating the manufacturer or religious congregation, along with a handwritten measurement. Fabric: antique french silk damask featuring pomegranate motifs. The side edges are finished with gold thread braid (metallic gold trim). Liturgical color: crimson red. Dimensions: 230 x 65 cm. Condition: used, with creases, wear, and signs of aging. It retains its original construction and decorative elements, bearing marks consistent with its history of use. Small wax stains present. Suitable for cleaning. No tears. There are no broken areas. The piece has been cleaned only superficially. Fast shipping with tracking code via transport company. Very well packaged and protected (boxed). An ID number is required for shipments outside the EEC.
