All auctions / Arts & Graphics / Douglas Simonson (American, b. 1950)
Local Boy Acting Nonchalant, 2007. Colored pencil and ink on paper. Signed and dated on the bottom left, "Simonson 3.07" ; Model name inscribed on the bottom left, "Nohea". 17 x 11 in. (43.2 x 27.9 cm) Notes: Douglas Simonson is a contemporary American artist currently based in Mexico. His work focuses on the nude male figure, often depicting young Asian and Pacific Islander men in beach settings and tropical landscapes. Tom Baker, for the Gay & Lesbian Review, writes: “Few people understand the power and beauty of the male figure better than Douglas Simonson, who has made male nudes the pillar of a successful, three-decades-long painting career. Often Simonson gives this subject a classic treatment in draftsmanlike drawings with a disciplined realism. But just as often, he shifts colors and warps shapes in startling flights of fancy.” [1] [1] Tom Baker, “Douglas Simonson’s Portraits from ‘Paradise’”, Gay & Lesbian Review (September-October 2007). Condition Nothing adverse to note. For further condition details or additional images, please contact info@vallots.com
