dress - Silk - China - Qing dynasty (Manchu China) (1692-1911)

Lovely Chinese robe, dating from the 19th century (Qing dynasty). The present owner has had the robe for 25 years, inheriting it from her mother. It came into the family as a gift from someone who had bought the robe in India, before 1940. It supposedly is the robe of a Chinese princess. The robe was hung in a bedroom, out of reach of direct light, and is in reasonably good condition. All buttons and cords seem to be present and the collar and sleeve ends are not frayed or otherwise damaged. Also - as far as we can see - there are no signs of shortening or other alterations. The silk of the lining (light blue) is fragile, and shows little holes but no tears or repairs. The “marks” on the inside lining are the needle threads of the embroidery on the outside of the lining (dark blue, with single dragons).
