A ceramic water dropper shaped like a mountain (yeonjeok in Korean), a classic desk tool traditionally used in East Asia (particularly during the Joseon Dynasty in Korea, between the 18th and 19th centuries). It was used by literati to dispense water with extreme precision onto the inkstone (suzuri or meor) to dissolve solid ink tablets before calligraphy or painting. It reproduces a mountainous landscape with steep rocky peaks surrounding a citadel or temple/pagoda perched on the summit. It features a distinctive white glaze partially overlaid with pale cobalt blue and copper-red tones to emphasize the natural veins and reliefs of the rock. In addition to holding water, the clustered peak-like form often allowed wetted brushes to rest between the depressions, serving simultaneously as a brush rest. Moreover, it offered a mental rest, as one moved through a mountainous landscape.
