Duck decoy - Large Hand-Carved Mallard Drake 38 cm –...

Magnificent Large Hand-Carved Wooden Mallard Drake – Hand-Painted Decorative Duck Decoy – Mid/Late 20th Century A beautifully crafted and highly decorative wooden duck decoy representing a male Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), distinguished by its generous proportions, elegant silhouette and exceptionally detailed hand-painted plumage. Measuring an impressive 38 cm in length, this charming example of traditional waterfowl carving displays remarkable attention to detail. The magnificent emerald-green head contrasts beautifully with the warm chestnut-brown breast, while the carefully executed feather patterns feature delicate black brushstrokes over natural shades of brown, cream and grey. Particularly attractive are the sculpted wings and layered tail feathers, which give the piece additional depth, movement and sculptural character. Period and craftsmanship Probably dating from the second half of the 20th century, approximately the 1960s–1980s, this decoy reflects the traditional craftsmanship associated with hand-carved wooden waterfowl. Its precise geographical origin and maker remain unidentified. Condition Good vintage condition, with authentic signs of age and use, including minor paint losses and surface wear. There may be evidence of earlier conservative restorations, apparently carefully executed and discreet, without significantly affecting the overall aesthetic appeal. The decoy remains solid, stable and visually very attractive. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description. Dimensions Length: 38 cm Width: 13 cm Height: 17 cm Collectible and decorative appeal A striking example of traditional wooden waterfowl carving, combining rustic charm with refined decorative craftsmanship.
