Duck decoy - Lokeenden met pinguïn (10) - Wood, hand-painted wood

10 decorative wooden figures. It concerns an old penguin statue, 6 decorative mallard duck figures, and two wooden swans. The penguin probably dates from the 1960s or 1970s; the ducks and swans probably date from the 1980s or 1990s of the previous century. The penguin is the largest and heaviest figure. It is 20 cm high, 11 cm wide and 11 cm deep. It weighs about 300 g. The smallest duck weighs about 20 g, it is 12 cm wide, 6 cm high and 5 cm deep. The other figures are between these two in weight and size. The total weight of the 10 figures is 1.3 kg. The ducks are carved from wood and are solid. The type of wood is hard to determine, but it is soft wood, such as poplar or willow. The paintwork is clearly visible. The ducks still look very good. The two swans have a few straight cracks in the neck (see photos). The penguin is an older piece and shows some signs of wear. There is a repaired crack at the beak visible and also at the tail (see photos). Also, in certain places the paint has disappeared and the gesso is visible (gesso is a ground layer made of lime and animal binder used to even out the carved wood and make it suitable for painting). These signs of use give the piece a particularly attractive appearance. The ducks are decorative mallards and were never used for duck decoys. On a couple of ducks the original shop tag is still visible on the bottom from where it was bought. These ducks were probably made in the Netherlands or Belgium. They look very decorative both together and separately; a piece of ornament in any interior; modern, but also suitable for a more classic interior. With a small spotlight on it, especially beautiful in a cabinet or display case! The figures are carefully packed and shipped insured.
