Expressive Art Deco crackle glaze sculpture of a pursuing lioness descending a rocky terrain. Notable is the menacing rendering of the head and forepaw and the refined openwork of the hind leg and the tail. The craquelures are fine and uniform, indicating good craftsmanship. The sculpture dates from the interwar period (1920s/1930s) and was made in France. It is signed with E. Siegl on the plinth. Length 29 cm – Width 9.5 cm – Height 14 cm Reference: Patrick Malaureille – “Craquelés – Les animaux en céramique 1920-1940”: illustration p. 69 The sculpture is in very good condition. No restorations, cracks or damaged plinth, which is common with this type of sculpture. There are a few small imperfections on the hind leg (see first photo). Photos are an integral part of the description. The sculpture is packed very carefully and shipped with tracking.
