Édouard Alexandre ODIER (1800–1887) The Camaldolese Monks, after Delaroche Oil on paper, signed, dated, and located in the lower left corner: Camaldolese Monastery, 1834 17 x 27 cm Provenance: - Artcurial auction, Paris, September 25, 2018, lot 492 - Laura Pêcheur Gallery, Paris “During the summer of 1834, Édouard Odier stayed twice at the Camaldoli hermitage in Tuscany, alongside Paul Delaroche, Édouard Bertin, and Henri Delaborde. In this secluded spot in the Apennines, the artists took a particular interest in the monks and their distinctive features. The two monks depicted here by Odier were also portrayed by Delaroche in studies now held at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes
